As Businesses, Why Should You Invest in Our Planet?

Businesses - whether they are for-profit or non-profit - make our lives better. The majority of the hundreds of thousands of businesses that are operational across the globe today are all about enhancing the way we live and making sure that convenience is the cornerstone of our lifestyles.

Why Do We Need Businesses?

Think about it.

The real estate industry caters to our most basic need of shelter. In fact, these days, the online real estate businesses all over the world make sure that finding a dream home is a hassle-free and even enjoyable process, instead of the drawn-out real estate management processes of old.

The retail industry clothes us, and does a fabulous job of it as well! Thanks to the numerous options out there, there is no dearth of choices when it comes to the type of attire you can pamper yourself with.

The FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) industry keeps us well-fed and nourished. If you have the money to spend, you can have steaming hot pad thai noodles (or a healthy bowl of cut fruits if you are on a mission to take care of your body) delivered right to your doorstep!

The healthcare industry nurses us back to peak form when we face any medical issues or over-indulge in the offerings of the food and beverage businesses. In fact, disbarring the recent pandemic, mortality rates have never been better in any century than in the 21-st century, thanks to the premium healthcare that is provided by medical businesses.

The automotive industry helps us go places - to access the offerings of the real estate, retail, FMCG, and healthcare businesses or to enjoy a well-deserved vacation with your loved ones at the end of a long season at work.
In a nutshell, businesses keep things easy, affordable, and exciting! They give us more employment opportunities, which in turn improves the global economies, which inturn enhances the lifestyle of millions across the globe.

But, at what cost?

How Do Businesses Affect Our Environemnt?

Let us take a refresher course on some facts from the Environmental Studies textbooks of our childhood.
  • Land is a limited resource.
  • Only about 1.2% of the 3% of earth’s water is fit for human consumption.
  • Forests keep the ozone layer from getting depleted.
These are only a few of the basic facts you need to know to understand how businesses are affecting our environment adversely.

When businesses come up, our lifestyles go up.

Unfortunately, our forests go down.
Our land quality goes down.
Our air purity goes down.
Our ozone protection goes down.
Our water reserves go down.
Our fauna goes down.
And, finally, we will go down too.

But, all is not lost! Not yet, anyway.

How Can Businesses Invest in Our Planet?

We don’t need to resort to drastic measures and go back to living under rocks like cavemen to preserve our planet.

What we can do instead is explore a concept that everyone is aware of, but for some reason, does not take too seriously : sustainability.

Sustainability is implemented when you can figure out a way to meet the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. Simply put, stop exploiting our natural resources, and instead look for alternative solutions to continue our convenient existence.

So, ask yourself this question: How can your business be more sustainable? How can you give back to the environment, your community, and ultimately, your planet? The simple answer is that you need to undergo a digital transformation.

Why Is Digital Transformation Synonymous with Sustainability?

When you take your business processes online, you are helping the planet in countless ways.

For starters, you will be saving the environment from all the detrimental side-effects of setting up multiple physical outlets if you set up online storefronts instead.

You will be saving large forests from deforestation by implementing paperless transactions and building up databases on the Cloud.

You will be harnessing the power of AR (Augmented Reality) and VR (Virtual Reality) to bring physical showrooms and entertainment to your audience’s homes, thus saving them the need to travel and add more greenhouse gasses to the atmosphere.

If your business is end-to-end digitalised, you can even streamline your business logistics to optimize your usage of fuel and thus reduce your carbon footprint considerably.

To keep up with this year’s theme for World Earth Day and “Invest in Our Planet”, start making sure your business goes digital and leaves no paper trails of the inglorious days of mindless industrialisation.

As you can see, if your business decides to go digital, the possibilities for sustainability are limitless. If you want to know, our experts can tell you how to implement a paperless end-to-end digital business ecosystem
